About Michael

Who is Michael?

I was born in Macon, where I’ve spent most of my life. I've been in law enforcement for 20 years. My hobbies are golf, working out, and work because that’s all I really have time for.

Describe your sports and fitness background?

I played baseball most of my childhood and teenage years (little league and high school). I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2016 and completed the CrossFit Level 1 training course in March of 2023. My agency has a robust PT program beginning with Trooper School and continuing through biannual PT in-service. Although our PT test is not necessarily hard, it can be very difficult for someone who does not work out regularly and take care of their body.

What is your favorite and least favorite movement?

  • Favorite = I have a few: Bar Muscle Ups, Pistol Squats, and Heavy Snatches
  • Least favorite = Thrusters

If you had to give a bit of advice to people starting out, what would that be?

Work on your form and DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SCALE. If you are new to fitness, please understand you cannot compare yourself to someone that has been doing this for ten years. The easiest way to get hurt is try to Rx a movement you are not comfortable with.

The advantage of functional training is it’s infinitely scalable and there is no judgment of those who scale. Learn the movements, master your form, and Rx will come. Just be PATIENT and listen to the coaches— they were new at some point and could not do all the movements.
